Google’s Super Bowl Commercial: Aaaaw
Perfect for Valentine’s Day, don’t you think? And one of the few companies who actually successfully advertised their product and not some silly joke. Who’s ready to move to Paris?
Perfect for Valentine’s Day, don’t you think? And one of the few companies who actually successfully advertised their product and not some silly joke. Who’s ready to move to Paris?
What does love make you think of? For me, Breakfast at Tiffany’s always pops to mind. I love Audrey Hepburn, I love the film and I double love that my Valentine and I fell in love with this film while watching it in our very early days of courtship. Inspired by that, and by this fantastic Living In column by Amy Merrick on Design*Sponge, I thought I’d put together a mini Breakfast at Tiffany’s roundup.

[ clockwise from top, l-r: Holly Golightly Dress - the perfect LBD custom-made for you; Holly Golightly Sleep Mask -- the chicest way to shut out the world; Holly Golightly Blue Tassel Earplugs -- to keep the noise out, daaahling; Bath Tub Couch -- because dreams can come true, in 4-6 weeks ]
Thinking of something someone loves, whether a movie, book, country or hobby is always a great hopping off point for gift giving. What Breakfast at Tiffany’s fan wouldn’t love items inspired by the movie?

[ Vintage Olivetti Valentine Typewriter -- because, like Fred, er...Paul, you too are a writer and would be inspired by a gorgeous vintage typewriter; Multi-Strand Bow Necklace -- a modern update on the classic multi-strand pearls; Audrey Hepburn Collection (Breakfast at Tiffany's / Roman Holiday / Sabrina) -- the movie, of course, plus a few more romantic classics for your viewing pleasure; Tiffany Earrings -- for obvious reasons; Breakfast at Tiffany's (Essential Penguin)
-- the book that started it all; Washburn Banjo, 5 String
-- for when you're inspired to strum Moon River; Pink Studio Gypsy Ballet Flats
-- because Holly and Audrey made ballet flats chic; Breakfast at Tiffany's Paintings -- the sweetest art to commemorate your BaT love ]
Not only is a themed gift like this great to get, but it’s so much fun to give. For a wedding gift, we once had a blast finding Roman delights for friends who were spending their honeymoon in Rome (think Roman Holiday, books on Rome, Italian wine, all wrapped in paper with a vintage world map and topped off with a card with a Vespa on the front).
Every couple seems to have a song. If you and your guy have a movie, get inspired by all of the great Living In posts here. Or maybe you share a love of Paris? Or of camping. Maybe he adores a certain book. Hunt down a first edition. Give a writer a fabulous pen and journal, or a coveted vintage typewriter. Maybe photography’s his passion? A vintage or silly, fun camera would be cute. Just showing the one you love (or kinda like a lot) that you know them, will melt his/her heart.
What’s your movie?

Project Runway episode 4 was a red hot mess. The challenge? To design a Campbell’s soup-inspired dress for real women who have faced heart problems. The designers got really lucky because all of the women were gorgeous and all seemed to be relatively fit. In fact, it was surprising that these woman had heart problems, as it’s easy to assume that overweight people would most likely be the victims of heart disease. Lesson learned: Put down the chocolate pudding, skinny or not. Moving on…

The designers succeeded, however, in making these women all look far larger than they actually are. And many succeeded in making their poor models look far tackier (these are women who oozed strength and class upon arrival, mind you). These are supposed to be gala gowns. The only dress we liked? The winning one. But to each her or his own. Who do you think should have won and who should have gotten the stiletto boot?

Make his heart — and your feet — all aflutter with a flirty, fabulous pair of shoes made for loving this Valentine’s Day. Because V-Day’s always a good time to pump things up in the va-va-voom department — and, as the great Justin Timberlake once said, it’s time to bring sexy back. And, hint, hint boys, these will make our stems look great and last far longer than both flowers and lingerie (though we’ll happily take all three if you feel so inclined).

On Facebook, it’s celebrity doppelganger week (okay, more like two weeks), where you upload a photo of a celebrity that you’ve been told you look like. Have you been playing? It’s been enlightening seeing that my friends look like Beyonce, Malin Akerman, Angie Harmon, Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain (and that no boys seem to be playing). What a group. That’s almost as fun and as eclectic as my Imaginary Cocktail Party attendees. I digress. At the Grammy’s last Sunday, I realized a few celebs have doppelgangers of their own.

Who knew that Dave Matthews was really the son (or brother) of Tom Hanks?

And that Sarah Palin is Paris Jackson’s mama!
And that Sarah Palin is Tina Fey’s and my mama too?! Maybe it’s just the glasses…
Now that that mystery is solved (you’re welcome), I’d love to know who is your celebrity look-alike?
p.s. Does somebody have a brush I can borrow?
One of our favorite trends for spring? Leather wrap bracelets. They’ll instantly add a cool edge to anything you wear. Above and below, some of our faves.

Our best dressed list features some glamorous gowns and some downright outrageous looks (hello, Lady Gaga). Ever since Lady Gaga showed up to her Barbara Walters interview dressed as Barbara WaWa (and Barbara didn’t notice or get it), we’ve been smitten. She was even more memorable and mind-boggling on the GRAMMY red carpet in a custom Giorgio Armani Prive. Tamer, but ga-ga-gorgeous, Fergie was electric in a cobalt blue Pucci mini, while Carrie Underwood was a vision in white Edition by Georges Chakra.
Pink surprised us all by ditching her punky look for a sophisticated Tony Ward haute couture number, while Mary J. Blige wowed in a fuchsia Gucci gown. Nicole Kidman, as usual, looked elegant in Prada, while J.Lo channeled her P.Diddy days in a gam-tastic body conscious Versace frock. Who was the queen of the red carpet? You be the judge.
Once again, Britney bombed on the red carpet at last night’s GRAMMYs. We love Britney and have fashion fantasies of her someday being on the Best Dressed List — or, at the very least, not being on the Worst Dressed List. Since Ms. Spears doesn’t appear to have a stylist, y’all, we figured we all could channel our inner Rachel Zoes and make her over. What Britney should have worn? You be the stylist and vote below!
