Style Crush: Olesya’s Mexican Dress

la street style; style crush; la fashion photos; los angeles street style; los angeles fashion stylist olesya

Recently I’ve been spotting such stylish people on the streets, from the girl who delivers my Thai food to the fashionable ladies and gents at events. I’d love to share their inspiring real-girl (or guy!) style with you, so I’m kicking off a new feature on BussBuss called Style Crush. Our first style crush was spotted last weekend while I was cake-tasting with friends at Vanilla Bake Shop. I love how she paired her bright vintage Mexican embroidered dress with Ray-Bans, cool studded flat sandals, a metallic  long-strap bag, skinny bracelets, dark grey nail polish and casually side-swept bangs. Very Marfa-esque.

It turns out that our style crush is a fashion stylist (natch) and that her name is Olesya. My friend and I were so surprised because we were on our way to meet our friend Olesya, the only person each of us had ever met with that name. This Olesya was shocked too because she had never encountered anyone else with her name. I asked if she happened to have Russian roots too, like our friend, but no, hers are British and Italian. Alas… Isn’t this the perfect outfit for Saturday cupcake-eating and shopping? Do you have a style crush on Olesya too? I’d love to hear what you think…

Kelly’s 5 Picks: Lines & Shapes

thread social; bhldn

The curve of a scalloped edge, the scoop of an inviting chair, the fold of a petal… For spring I’m loving bold hues in all their pretty shapes and forms. Topping my list?

1. BHLDN frocks — brides behold,  Anthropologie’s new sister {wedding} site offers a bouquet of bridal dresses, including the petal- (and envelope-) pushing Beth Bowley Zinnia gown.

2. The Sputnik – I dream of Marfa…in my (currently all-too-bare) tea room.

3. Thread Social wrap dress– the entire line is divine, but sapphire and scallops, be still my heart.

4. Liberty d’Orsay by Butter shoes – with liberty (prints) and poppies for all.

5. The Kinetic modern rocker – Grandmas need not apply; tea-sipping design-lovers, you’re welcome.

Dreamy Inexpensive Decor: Giant Blown-Up Photos

cloud photos; cloud art; inexpensive large-scale art; chic canvas

We have a ton of tiny prints, but love large-scale art. Large-scale art, however, tends to be super expensive, so months ago, I purchased some Groupon-like deals that let you print your photos on large canvases. We haven’t used them yet, but after seeing these cloud photos, I’m dying to.

Stunning, right? (And apparently it’s just a blown-up poster that cost $30, then an extra $30 for the frame from Ikea! I just blew up a photo that I made K for our anniversary into a smaller poster — I’ll have to share that with you soon…) We have some great photos from White Sands and Marfa that would be just perfect. And speaking of perfect, this room. Such ideal inspiration for our sad, neglected, currently empty “tea room.” Cozy, but modern with a relaxed desert vibe. And I think it could actually work with our place, which has lots of Moroccan arches.

The room belongs to Amber and was inspired by this famous photo (above). I believe that’s a Massimo Vitali print. Love. I actually snapped a photo north of San Francisco awhile back that looks very similar. Perhaps it will get blown up too… I feel a new addiction coming on! At least this one won’t make me not fit into my jeans (whew).

Speaking of, I also love the idea of blowing up some of our (billion+) food photos. I love these perfectly messy, colorful ones — the after-photos of a great meal. What do you think? Are you ready to go big at home? What photo(s) would you use?

Follow It: Hearts, Rainbows, Blue Skies

Darlings, I wanted to share a few snaps with you from our most recent trip to the desert, where Le Hubs (a.k.a. Blue Sky Homes) is building another amazing modern home in the Joshua Tree area. Can you imagine getting to wake up to this every day?

This is the actual home they are building out of steel. It was crazy to see how quickly the house came together, like an Erector set! There’s even a blog to follow the progress if you’re into that sort of thing, you know modern architecture in amazeball settings.

This will be the view from the lucky owner’s dining room, a super stylish Canadian who could be James Spader’s twin. Oh, just another day of picnicking amongst the giant rocks and landscape you’d find in Joshua Tree National Park. No biggie. Yes. I am jealous.

This is what I wore to the construction site. Yes, I got laughed at. But hey, it matched my hard hat!

Okay, not really. But the press was there, and I wanted to look cute.

Because they were obviously there to photograph me, right? Oh. My bad.

mojave sands motel

On this visit, until Rock Reach House became available (the BEST place to stay in the desert if you can book it), we holed up at the under-the-radar newly redone Mojave Sands motel, which reminded me quite a bit of the Thunderbird in Marfa.

The quirky-cool rustic-modern rooms even included vintage record players and typewriters (on which I typed love letters to K on Valentine’s Day).

We played Johnny Cash records and a little Stevie Wonder too.

Another highlight of the trip, in addition to seeing a huge falling star, a giant moonbow, oh, and building a house? We saw FIVE rainbows in ONE day (all within two hours actually!). We even saw a double rainbow. OMG a double rainbow! Whoooooa!

Just as sweet? Seeing this sign at Pappy and Harriet’s on our last night in the desert. Right when we really needed it. Do you follow your heart? I hope so. Thanks for coming along and letting me share xx!
