We’re Off To…Mexico!

what to pack for mexico; how to pack for mexico; what to wear in mexico; what to wear in san miguel de allende, mexico

In T minus seven hours, we are off to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico! And though I am packed, I am vastly unprepared. As in we’ve booked tickets and know where we are staying, but have no clue about the rest. A little mystery is fun right? If you have any tips or recommendations, please send them my way! You can follow along on our adventures through Mexico by following me on Instagram (bussbuss). My Instagrams will also automatically appear right here on the BussBuss blog. And, you can also follow Fred Baby’s amazing Instagram photos here (fred_baby_13).

In the meantime, this is what I wish was in my suitcase:

 1. A big floppy hat for keeping rays at bay.

2. A candy striped clutch for stashing chicletes.

3. Festive pants for frolicking on the cobblestone streets.

4. A little ear candy.

5. A peppy new case for my phone for snapping pics of Mexico on the fly.

p.s. Oh, and one of these. Adios for now, my darling muchachos xx!

Do You Have a Style Twin? Here’s Mine!

My dears, we’re still in San Francisco, where the city and I have been engaging in a battle of sorts. I’m all like, knock it off with your freezing cold wind, San Franny, I wanna be warm, like pronto. And it’s all like no, I want to freeze you like a popsicle, sista. It’s a war that’s raged since we last lived here. The upside, however, is getting to wear cute winter clothes that seldom get to come out and play living in LA.

Of course, half of these clothes I owe to my sweet fashion blogger friend Helen, as she generously donated them to me, instead of to Crossroads, in which they were originally intended. Tibi, J.Crew, BCBG, oh my! It felt like Christmas. Not only did this warm my frozen limbs, but the cockles of my hardened heart, too (I blame the hardening mostly on my indulgent diet, which has been well documented on Instagram).

Here I am in Tiburon, a town just north of San Francisco that I love and which normally can be counted on for warmer weather than the city. But not on this day. I thought I was cold, until I spotted the crazy brave kite surfers and kayakers in the water.

How do they do it, when I can barely keep my hair from flying in my face, and my feet on the ground? After keeping warm at the Lodge at Tiburon, my friend Helen texted me that she was inspired by my outfit (which she had glimpsed on Instagram) and that we needed to take pictures of our matching ensembles…

Behold, my style twin!

Funnily enough, we even have the same iPhone case. Remember this one?

Here’s what I wore: H&M faux fur vest {similar & similar}; J.crew sequins & stripes top {similar & similar & similar}; Tibi orange shorts {similar}; Papillote grey cableknit tights {similar}; Sole Society boots c/o; Forever 21 quilted white bag {similar hereicon}.

See what Helen wore here!

Do you have a style twin? I’d love to know…

xx,

Kelly Golightly

p.s. Jeni’s salty caramel ice cream is amazing.

Easter in San Francisco

easter in san francisco

Good morning, darlings! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. We’re back from South America and no sooner landed in Los Angeles and were on our way up to San Francisco to celebrate Easter with family. I thought I’d share a few highlights from Easter weekend to kick off the week. I hope you enjoy and I’m so happy to be back so we can catch up. I’ve truly missed you.

Above: Easter brunch in my sister-in-law’s garden. She made insanely delicious Eggs Benedict; I was in charge of table decorations, hence the Peeps-on-a-stick centerpiece! (Remember these cupcakes on a stick?); We drank too much champagne and ate too many jelly beans and soaked up the sunshine — it was perfect.

How to make an Easter Bunny cake

We also dyed Easter eggs and I was surprised when my S-I-L made two simple incisions into her round carrot cake and created this bunny cake (a trick she learned from my M-I-L)! I was in charge of decorating Sir Hopsalot with lemon cream cheese frosting and Easter candies. It was so much fun, I’m already brainstorming what he can wear next year…

After a much needed champagne nap, we went on a little neighborhood walk around Pacific Heights. The views from the Lyon Street Steps are some of the best in the city, and in the years since we lived here, they’ve added rows and rows of cherry blossom trees, which make it that much more breathtaking. (Yes, these are the same stairs that I used to climb when I was attempting to get into shape, and in which I was famously passed on the stairs by a miniature dachshund. Touche, hot dog, touche.)

We also walked by the Full House house (Cut. It. Out.), and Patrick Blanc’s Living Wall. We ended the night at our favorite restaurant in the world, Gamine, a tiny neighborhood French bistro that serves up the best burgers you’ve ever tasted.

Over the weekend, we were so lucky to have friends generously invite us over for amazing meals at their homes. While I didn’t get photos of our first dinner in town (Maryland crab cakes and burrata – my fave), I did happen to snap a photo of our friends’ gorgeous Easter garden (I have major house and garden envy!).

The next night, our friend (who also officiated our wedding!) made an Easter dinner feast, which included lamb, salad, purple potatoes and these bright pea pesto crostini (which felt so perfect for the spring-y occasion). He also made homemade ice cream. Flavors included Aztec Chocolate, Coffee, and Malted Milk (with Whoppers!). It was by far the best ice cream I’ve ever had, so much so that we’re trying to convince him to sell it. And I’m voting for him to name the company Surpricecream. (Surprisecream?) p.s. The oatmeal is from La Boulange - the healthiest thing I’ve had in ages. Delicious, too!

It was a wonderful Easter weekend and now I’m off to walk (and shop) it off xx!

[All photos by BussBuss and created with Instagram, which was just bought by Facebook for $1 billion. (!!!) I've been saying that Instagram is the new Facebook (and Twitter) for awhile now (someone feel free to reimburse me for that trend forecasting knowledge ;) ). But one billion dollars (she says with her pinky to her lip), wowzers. My next Facebook acquisition prediction: Pinterest! You're welcome, America.]

Scenes from Rio

rio, brazil

We’ve had such a wonderful time in Rio that instead of flying back to LA tonight as planned, we pushed our flights back until next week. We’ll be spending a few extra days in Rio and a long weekend at our friends’ farmhouse in Miguel Pereira. We’re excited and intrigued to see the Brazilian countryside. Before we head into Internet-free territory, I wanted to share some scenes from Rio. I hope you enjoy!

[The beaches of Leblon and Ipanema as seen from our hotel room; Fresh melon juice enjoyed while looking down from Corcovado/Christ the Redeemer; Fred Baby enjoying a fresh coconut in Leblon with Dos Hermanos in the background; the view from Corcovado; Avocados as big as your face at the local supermarket]

Greetings from Rio!

Daaahlings, just popping in to say hello from Rio! How have you been? I’ve missed you like crazy, but Fred Baby and I have been having so many adventures that it’s been hard to find the time to write. After exploring on foot all day long, our steamy evenings have been spent in coma-like states watching old episodes of Mad Men (tonight we get to see Season 5′s premiere — did you watch last night?!) enjoying the thriving nightlife of South America.

We had a swell time in Argentina and can’t wait to tell you all about it. We’ve now landed in Rio, where we are soaking up the sun and spending quality time with friends we haven’t seen in far too long. It feels so good to reconnect. Today, we’re off to explore beyond the glittering sun-soaked beaches to see what the rest of Rio has to hold. I’m off to find out…

Can’t wait to share what we find xx!
